leaky steering rack on an 87 5000QuatroCS

Would anyone care to share their experience replacing a steering
rack on an Audi 5000?   I know some of you out there have gone
through this since it was a common failure on older 5000's.

I'm getting a rebuilt short rack from the dealer for $310+tax.

I'm doing this for our baby sitter.  Trading car repair for
child care time.  Ohhh the things we do for our kids hugh? :)
