hole in thermostat

          My guess is that the hole is to allow some small amount of
          flow when the thermo is fully closed. No idea if this is
          really required.

          Is the replacement thermo the correct OEM part for the
          application? If so, perhaps Audi found the hole to be
          unneeded. If not OEM, I'd get the "Real" (Tm) part.
