noisy clutch plate (I think)

I have a 90 200TQ and when the engine idles I hear this rattling which goes  
away immediately when I put the clutch in. Does anyone know what this is? Is it  
something I should have repaired? Someone told me it was a noisy clutch plate  
common on VW's and Audi's.

Anyone?, Bueller?
