door lock query

I hesitate to inject such a mundane topic in the midst of everyone's 
tales of 100 mph+ play, but I stumped so I will. Car is '86 4000csq. Auto 
door locks are getting a bit sketchy. Will always unlock. Will only auto 
lock c.a. 45%. When they do lock it's solid and quick; seems there's no 
half way mode. Does anyone have a list of the usual culprits? I do need 
to replace the driver's side door handle, but the locking mechanism 
doesn't appear damaged. Solenoid switch at pump in trunk? Would 
appreciate any advice. TNX
