  My understanding of the A8 is that the chassis, with structural
  reinforcements, is 40% lighter Vs an equivalent steel chassis. Audi then
  added a lot of luxo stuff, sound deadening and doo-dads that could not
  otherwise be added, while still keeping the total weight below that of an
  equivalent steel chassis without all the extras. So, you get a lot of
  extra luxo stuff *and* lighter weight Vs the competition. I'm waiting for
  the A8 5.0 40V.          :)
