Hmm, I don't know about the late model 5000's, but on the 77-83 5000's if you are very clever, you will find a hole behind the seat big enough to undo the 2 or 3 bolts. that hold one side of the latch(I don't remember which). I think they have internal hex heads...allen screws. If you are very patient/clever etc, and have someone to hold a flashlight, you can remove the screws with a very long socket extension.
