V8 quattro steering

I have a question for all you V8 owners out there.  A friend of mine is about to
buy a V8 and he said the steering seems to have a dead spot.  I recall a hearing
of some cars that do this at the straight ahead position but don't recall if
Audi did this on the V8.  He said that he didn't notice where it was and that it
just might be center.  Is this normal or has anyone else experienced this?
