IT'S FREEZING POWER WINDOW , 4000CS

Dear netters,

I stoppeed using my front right power window after i heard a grinding sound
while trying to enjoy some fresh air. (AUDI 4000CS 87)
I let my brother use my car and he forgot to tell his wife not to let the
passenger side window down , now i got a broken cable and my window is hanging
halfway down.
I call the local dealership and they gave me a price of $450.00 for
the complete power window kit.

Questions.
1. is there a way to fix this problem , the motor stills runs.
2. what is the cost , new & used.
3. where can i get it.
4. what would it take to fix or install one myself.
