*Perhaps* the pop-off valve might be good insurance for those that experiment with the (risky) fool pump relay-defeat hack. Can a properly functioning turbo actually be damaged by overspeeding due to no load on the compressor -- like if the IC or a turbo compressor output hose blows while WFO -- boost gets vented to the atmosphere and hence no overboost condition or automatic fool-pump shutdown? What would be the failure mode of an 'overspeeded' turbo? Impeller explosion? Or would the max speed be self-limiting? Lotsah people 'blowedup' ICs and hoses, but you don't hear about exploded turbos.....? (yet :) "Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice and moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."
