Thanks for your post. Needless to say it gave me a funny feeling in the pit
of my stomach. Mike Spiers also responded and told me had exactly the same
symptoms with his 87 5KCSQ. His problem was the star nut on the alternator
that was loosening ever so slightly so that at idle the belt was slipping a
tad. Your analysis is frightening. I will hit the shop tomorrow and proceed
from there.
