Radiator Fan Bites the Dust

Well, OK, not quite yet, but it's on its way. Bearings are making
some pretty unsavory noises. So, seeing as I called the local
dealer and got a quote of (are you all sitting down?) $430, I figure
repair is looking like the better alternative than replacement.
Got Mike Loeks' write-up on bearing R&R (nice post, BTW, Mike), but
had a couple questions:
 - I assume the fan motors, or more specifically, the bearings, are
   the same for the 5kcstq and the 5kS. Anyone know for sure?
 - Those who've done this before, what was the condition of the
   brushes? Clearly, my bearings are hosed, but if the brushes are
   also shot....
On the up-side, the car displayed exemplary patience and timing, 
waiting until the rotten Wash DC weather was mostly gone, before
demanding attention...
