OK.  let's try...more than a few folks have changed dashes in the A1 series
VWs (Rabbit/Jetta/Scirocco) to the A2 series (Golf/Jetta/Scirocco).  It's
NOT a bolt-on replacement, but it can be done, and it involves some minor
metal-work for supports and mounting holes.  i would imagine you could do
similarly with the 5k/100 series--afterall, the body shell did not change
appreciably--it was a "minor" facelift, as some have put it.  having said
that, i would not expect this to be a trivial swap--pulling the dash out of
a Jetta II (A2) was a 2 person-2 hour task, and that was without trying to
save the dash (we wanted the instruments and wiring harness)
