[Author Prev][Author Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Author Index][Thread Index] Broken bolt revisited, new problem....
On the advice of several listers, I pulled the bumper, removed the grill and intercooler, and gained acess to the tensioner pulley from the front. Noticed that the bore in the oil pump could be tapped for an 8 mm bolt, as the 6 mm bolt was broken off further into the assembly. So, set the new tensioner in place and ran the 8 mm tap about 3/4 inch into the oil pump casting. Not a lot of metal removed. Inserted a 8 x 45 bolt and washer, seemed to snug down just fine. Replaced belt, reinstalled intercooler, grill, bumper, and all the other stuff. Car started and ran fine. Took it for a little shakedown trip, about 5 miles or so. Lo and behold, when I got it back in my garage, I noticed oil dripping on my garage floor! Removed the timing belt cover. No oil on belt. Quit for the night. So, what did I do wrong, and where is the oil comming from? Crank seal? Any advice as to what I should do next, things to check ans so on, would be greatly appreciated. What started out as a water pump replacement has become the timing belt from hell.... This car is my '87 5Kcst with auto tranny. Jerry Fields UW Whitewater, Whitewater, Wisconsin USA DoD #1697
