[Author Prev][Author Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Author Index][Thread Index] Anything else I should check?
Seven days from now, myself & all my worldly possesions will be packed into my TQ and an old Ford pickup and on I70, travelling from DC to Boulder, Colorado. The quattro has been on jackstands for the past two weeks receiving a complete suspension & steering overhaul, I think the only thing I didn't replace were the sub-frame bushings (soon Eric, soon.) It's at HBL Audi as I type, in one hour it gets a four wheel alignment. Assuming (ha!) the alignment goes as planned, I'll assume (ha again!) that theres nothing that *should* go awry with the suspension or steering. I checked all the brakes & such while I had it apart, everything looked peachy. I learned late last night that the brushes on my voltage regulator were not up to par, that's one thing that I would have never thought to check out, and if I'd been half-way to Colorado instead of the backstreets 5 minutes from my house, I'd have been three things, two of which are blued & tattooed. I've checked all the hoses, changed the oil & looked for drips, and it's been recently (relatively) tuned. Is there anything else I should check before I attemp a cross-country in this heap? I don't mean dump the codes to the computer, just minor things like "the hibbler-valve needs to be replaced every once in a while or the fuel-injection system will shut down." My girlfriend will be driving it, and I'm fairly sure she won't notice any of the early warning signs (not to say that I would) that a major mishap is about to occur. Hell, the battery light didn't even come on when the VR gave up the ghost, and a volt meter on the battery showed it sitting at 7.9 volts (no wonder it was stuttering & the in-dash boost gauge was jumping from 0 - 2.3 bar of boost at idle.) Many advanced thanks for any "gotcha!"s to inspect for, and if ya see a black TQ and a tan F150 sitting on the side of the road somewhere between DC & Boulder, won't ya honk as ya drive by? -- -Mike mikes@specnet.com mks107@psuvm.psu.edu 87 5000CS TQ - Metropolitan Washington, D.C.
