Vacuum Leak

John - if you unplugged the oil filler cap and pulled the dipstick, 
and nothing changed - then you have a BIG-TIME vacuum leak and your 
engine is compensating.  My most frequent failure area in this 
respect has been the crankcase breather hoses.
