I seem to remember reading in the owner's manual that the side vents put
out a mixture of outside and recirculated air, while the center is just recirc. 
(Just the opposite of my 4KS).  Now that my A/C works (thank [the Audi]
God[s]) I can't tell much of a difference, but before I had it recharged the
center vent was only cool and the side vents were like hair dryers.
