For noisy controls (potentiometers), I always use "DeOxit", a product
of Caig Laboratories.  It is specifically made for fixing noisy
connections and it really does work! (It sounds like this should be
part of every Audi owner's tool kit...probably should be part of the
first aid kit...).  It's about $12 for a spray can; there is a
companion product called "PreserveIt" which you use after treating
with DeOxit.  I bought mine from an electronics supply house called
MCM Electronics.  BTW, you can use it on any sort of electronic
connection.
