After run feature, thermo switch.....

Does anyone have an idea as to how to check this switch? I followed the
procedure in the Quattro Quarterly for testing the circuit. The fan and
coolant pump work fine when I short(close) the circuit. However, I have
not heard the fan come on or the pump after shutting off the engine.
Should I just replace the switch as a precaution? What is the
price/availability of this item. I have been running the car for about 3
minutes at idle after stopping at my destination. I would also like to
know if this is a dealer only item, or if there is someone in particular
that I should purchase it from.
