This happened to my V8 and I thought it was a sensor, but the dealer 
said it was the dash.  recently, I bought an instrument cluster way 
cheap and replaced the auto-check portion of the IC and that solved the 
problem.  The dealer was correct.  By the way, they wanted $1100 for the 
IC, I paid much less.
