You don't need to drain the system, but you do need to depress the brake pedal 20+ times to relieve all of the system pressure. The bomb *was* full of compressed nitrogen when it was new, but since you need to replace it that means it is now full of compressed ATF! ;-) Of course my bomb was replaced a few years back, you might want to make sure the pressure regulator is securely mounted to the car before you start torquing on it.
