The cruise control uses a vacuum actuator for the throttle driven by its own pump. Hitting the brakes releases the vacuum and therefore the throttle is closed. I think the switch is also for the cruise control and signals that the controller should quit trying to maintain speed - hence the normally closed contacts. There should be another switch for the brake lights. Orin.
