A4 Quattro - 2.8 or 1.8t ?

Q-List'ers:  I am retiring my 87 5000 CS Quattro (probably trading it   
in...) and want to purchase a new A4.  My local dealer of choice has a   
few '96 A4 Quattros, but I am very tempted by the prospects of the '97   
1.8t.  I have not subscribed to the list in a while, and have missed   
discussions of the two vehicles (if any).  I would really appreciate   
listening to people's opinions of the pro's and con's of either vehicle.   
 The dealership is getting 1 "Screaming Canary Yellow" 1.8t and I need to   
put  some money down if I want it (I think I do..)  Please send me   
anything you have on comparisons, or just info.
