do the valves or dont

with the head now at the machine shop I dropped off the valve seals.
the tech removed 1 valve so I could see it. It looked ok to me(dosent 
mean much) he said there is some play in the valve guide not alot but 
some. Now the car never smoked or used a drop of oil, at 85k should ido 
the valves and replace the guides. the cost was around $150.  If I do 
this work will it have any affect on the lower end since we are not 
upgrading anything down there
