I got a hammer and I ain't 'fraid to use > it........and punches are cheap..... ------ When I did the same thing on a friend's Honad Civci, I had to use a BIG vise, not to hold the axle, but to serve as a stop for the CV joint. The idea was to pull the axle quickly thru an oppening where the CV would not fit. When the CV hits the obstruction, hopefully the weight and momentum of the rest of the axle will be enough to pull itself free from the joint... but be careful not to slam everything to the ground when they finally come loose. An advantage of this method over the hit-it-with-a-hammer-until-it-comes-loose is that you are applying force to _both_ sides of the joint, whereas the hammer only pushes the joint from one side, causing it to rotate and making the removal all much trickier/difficult.
