Aw shux, Paul, I tend to agree with this summary. I thought it was a pretty decent thumbnail.......if more drivers tried to achieve just this, it would sure make traffic move better and more safely ! (And not necessarily slower...) Most cops are pretty decent people. They have a real challenge in that they spend days at a time "staring into the sewer of life". This has a strong tendency to generate distrust of ones' fellow "persons" (so as to avoid sexism...) And some of them do become just plain ornery and contrary, but those folks are rare. Most state trooper organizations have very high standards of conduct. They're not to blame for being assigned to enforce asinine laws....they just try to do their jobs and hopefully exercise some judgement.
