No, indeed not - as improbable as it sounds. When I first came back from Germany around ten years ago, it was simply not possible to eat out on a Sunday in Northamptonshire. Period. We were laughed at for trying. Today, there isn't a single pub in the county without "home cooked food" on a Sunday - sometimes all day - and the quality is EXCELLENT. In contrast, on my regular trips to Germany, I've found the quality falling. The Michelin Guide to France, if you read the introduction, bemoans the falling standard of French food. It has withdrawn a record number of its awards. IMO (and I spend a lot of time in both countries) England has replaced Germany as the country in which to eat good quality food cheaply in a hostelry. This is a complete reversal of the position fifteen years ago. -- Phil Payne phil@sievers.com Committee Member, UK Audi [ur-]quattro Owners Club
