Intermetent dead fuel gauge/wacko trip computer

Thanks to all who clarified my intermetent dead temp gague as the multi 
functional switch.  

Now, do I have a pattern here?  On cold mornings as I start for the 
first time, my trip computer goes wacko showing 700-800 miles available 
only to have my gague reading dead empty.  Next time I start the car 
that morning the gague and trip computer work.

Someone mentioned that if it could be a problem with the voltage 
regulator for the dash instruments, since I have more than one gague is 
acting up.  What do you think?
