Having done my "91 the "traditional" way, I would sure look at STEADIRIC's method on my next go-around. One thing that the "total tear out" required by the traditional way provides, is a chance to change out your heater core. These things have a finite life and when they go, steak knife surgery will not work. I recommend you spend the extra $80 or so and replace that puppy if you go the long rout. BTW, I took my worn out blower to the local Bosch starter motor service shop, where they pronounced the critter healthy except for the obvious brush problem. They ceaned up the unit and soldered in new brushes for about $25. So far, some 40K later, everything is copesetic.
