Subject: I-5 engine powers

Hi all,

Just looking at a few spec sheets, I was wondering if anyone could shed a
little light on this question: Why is it that my 82 2.2i of 2144cc size and
Bosch K-Jetronic produces 136bhp/100KW, whilst a new 2226cc engine from a 90
or Coupe still only produces 136bhp/100KW, presumably with some kind of
modern EFi.

What's happend to those extra ccs? And if this it true, whay are the modern
cars performing better on paper?

82 Audi 100 5E 2144cc inj (144k and 136Bhp if new!)
84 Mitsubishi Galant Turbo (96k and rusty will be getting some TLC over summer)
80 Rover 2600S SDI(46k yes, 46k and on head #5 or will be soon)
