auto tuners ... even though I do have one in my urQ ... but I'm assuming 
that things are REALLY bad for you.  In the case of the urQ the antenna has 
a little amplifier built into the base, and without power to the amp the 
signal is almost non-existent.  I used the power antenna control lead from 
the head unit [blue wire as I recall] to power the antenna ... works great 
for me ... YMMV.
