Re: alternator questions

Take a look at your alternator brushes. On an '84 VW Jetta GLI the
alternator went dead at around 100K miles. The brushes were toast.
Soldered in new ones (Bosch cost <$5.00); alternator was still working
fine when car was sold at 135K miles.

At 100K miles, inspected same on my '86 4kcsq and found one just in spec.,
other was fine. Since I'm so cheap I just soldered in one replacement.
Been working fine, car is now at 127K miles.

Pretty cheap fix if that's your problem.
