I'm thinking it might be fun to get together with other listers in
northern CA and do somekind of rally. Any ideas that anyone has about
an event that would show off or at least use the 4wd system that we
enjoy and yet not be destructive to paint, vehicle or occupants would
be welcome.

I'm in, but if it rains my car better not get wet......
Me thinks a rally inherently includes minor auto blemishes and that's
if you're lucky enough not to break anything less cosmetic.
Sheesh, guy gets a 200tq now he thinks he's faster than the speed of
door dings...;-)

P.S.  More subtle posts to SF Bay Area Listers can be subject-lined
"balQ" (bay area list quattro?) as Steve Buchholz frequently uses.
