electrical grounding question (headlight related)

Finally fried the ground terminal of each headlight plug on the Coupe. 
One of 'em is fused together so I can't even get the connector off the
headlight bulb base.  

I have the heavy duty wiring harness and the ground wires are solidly
grounded to sheetmetal.  Would it help to run a wire over to the battery
or a more substantial piece of metal?

On the Coupe, the high watt headlights (80/100) and the heavy duty wiring
harness lasted a lot longer than on my 5ktq.  I think 3+ years is
reasonable for the increase in ability to see at night.  So I'd like to
fix it and hopefully improve on it's longevity this time.  I think it's
worth the effort, at least once.
