I had a similar problem on my 88 Q-Avant. The dipped beam went AWOL. I
found an open circuit connection between pin '56b' on the switch and its
corresponding connector socket. I fixed it by cleaning with a needle
file and poking a piece of thin fusewire into the hole to create a tight
fit. The main beam is on '56a' and if both beams fail then '56' or 'X'
are the likely culprits.
