As promisted (threatened) here is the update on my ongoing timing belt replacement. Last week changed the belt, and got an awful squeeling metal/metal noise when I started the car. Got around to taking everything apart again this Saturday to see what the problem is. (Things went much faster since the job was still fresh in my mind, only took about 2 hours to get everything lined up and ready for a new belt, even with the vibration damper half off.) Well, the problem was "Pilot Error". I had put the Tensioner Roller Lever (pg.15-20-1, Item #21-for those with the repair manual) on backwards, so instead of being behind the bearing, it was in front of the bearing. This caused it to rub against the back of the vibration damper. The lever is pretty chewed up, and the Sliding Block (item #19) it sits on is made of plastic, and the friction heat from the Lever wore/melted it almost down to the bolt. The brand new timing belt got an eighth of an inch knick, and was slightly scratched from my turning the loose vibration damper to get everything back to TDC. I'll be calling Mark at Adirondack tomorrow and ordering a new belt, probably not necessary, but why take chances?? Knowing the stocking policy of Audi Dealers when it comes to special parts like the ones I'll be needing, it'll probably be another week before the mighty Q is on the road again. Everyday behind the wheel of my uncles Celibrity makes me appreciate the V8Q more. BCNU, ... DOS never says "EXCELLENT command or filename"... ___ Blue Wave/386 v2.30
