My '91 100 (non quattro) started making a moaning noise similar to an overworked hydraulic pump. I also smelled something hot (like electrical hot). The alternator light apeared on and off as the noise would get louder or softer. The engine would seem to pull under load as the noise would change also. Under the hood, the alternator seemed to be the source of the noise. Not the hydaulic pump (hyd fluid level OK). I will be checking tonite further by removing the alt. belt and check result. Anyone BTDT or similar experience? I have only known alternators to trash bearings and give a completely different sound or stop charging. No other earlier symptoms, although is wifes car so no _reported_ symptoms. Good source for replacement alternators? What is a good price for rebuilt? TIA Dennis Graber 91 100 85 CGT 96 LT4 Vette
