My 89 100 doesn't like the rain. Last night it let me sit. I checked in to a hotel and waited for it to dry out. This morning I drove it about an hour and a half and it died again. I'd seen this type of trouble before when I eventually had to replace my car's computer. Several of the computer's pins were completely corroded off. I thought it might be related so I took the dash board apart and checked out the connection. I now know how the previous computer came to be corroded. I found about 1/4 inch of water laying in the male side of the plug. I took the computer completely out and poured out the water. That seemed to help. The car ran for about another mile. Then it stopped again. I let it sit for about half a day and then it brought me home without a problem. Questions: 1. The water in the connector seems to have come down the inside of the wiring harness. It's not supposed to do that. How can I stop it? 2. Since drying out the computer didn't solve my problems completely I have some other wet places. What are some of the likely places to look? 3. In general, how do I keep my car from drowning during rain storms? More information: While I was waiting for things to start working again I did a computer diagnostic. I had error codes for, Throttle body idle switch, Knock Sensor, Temp sensor, and a few others that I can't remember now.
