Yes, you _must_ ground an O2 meter to the engine, preferably as close as
possible to the O2 sensor or you'll have up to 0.2V difference between
the sensor's ground and the meter's ground... and it does make it indicate
lean - at least on my car where my meter is grounded at the ECU it does.
