This happened on my 85 4KQ.  A former owner put reflective film on
the rear window, and a used car dealer ruined the defogging lines
when scraping off the film.

It looks like it would take a LOT of work to get it functioning again,
so I haven't bothered.  I'm hoping to one day find a cheap used rear
window (that says "quattro") and just put the whole thing in.
