I put (2)10" Bazookas on both sides of the trunk and it sounds great!  I
am using the kenwood quarter DIN sized 5 band EQ with variable sub
crossover and sub volume. I have this mounted facing up at the end of my
gearshift console, between it and the park brake(make sense?). 
Otherwise, its pretty much the same setup as you.  I Know this takes up
space, but for what it's worth, these subs can be easily removed for
temp. large loads.
