I might have missed this thread but:

on my 87 4kcsq, while doing my stereo upgrade this past week, I found a
mystery box.

In the center console dash part, behind the head unit ... a silvery box
marked "Hella" and "Nicht werfen" like in the previous posts.

What would this be?  I can inspect again for more detailed visual cues.
