I have started keeping track of the time I spend on some jobs.  At one
level, it is make sure I'm not being foolish, ie wasting money doing
something in 5 hours a mechanic could do in 30 min.  For instance,
taking about 2 hours to replace my rear shocks seems ok.

44 hours changing my dashboard and tweaking a bunch of stuff while in
there is just plain insane.  

Can you imagine bringing a used dashboard to a dealer (or private
wrench) and paying them to replace it, including splicing all the wires
to the switch connectors?
