I paid $279 + core when in '92 I replaced the one in my long gone '85 5000s. You can also rebuild it yourself. I paid $75 for the original ZF kit when in '96 I rebuilt the one in my current '89 200TQ. The rebuid is a lot more involved than say such a simple rebuild as that of brake calipers or clutch/brake master cylinder or P/S pump. I've rebuilt a substantial number of them and am very comfortable with a hydraulic rebuild, but the rack was by far and large the most complicated one that I've ever undertaken. I would strongly advise against such a do-it-yourself rebuild if you are a novice. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< When I run completely out of steering fluid, not only do I lose my power steering, I lose my power brake assist too. The tough steering isn't really a problem, but I really have to mash the brakes to stop the car, and since every split-second counts in braking, this is kinda dangerous. I realize the two systems are interconnected, but I wonder if there's a way to keep my power brakes working if I run out of steering fluid. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> No. ************************************************************ Igor Kessel '89 200TQ -- 18psi (TAP) '98 A4TQ -- nothing to declare Philadelphia, PA USA http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/8949/homepage.html ************************************************************
