When this first started about a month ago I naturally assumed it was time for new front pads, so I went ahead and replaced them. The pads I removed were about 2/3 worn, but not enough to cause the warning light to come on. I installed the new pads, and, sure enough, the light still comes on during aggressive braking. I brought the car to the Audi dealer and they found no problems anywhere in the wiring harness associated with the wear sensors. They ended up replacing the auto-check unit behind the dash, thinking that might be faulty. On the way home from the dealer... the light came on again. Grr. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jack, the Autocheck icon is responsible for pads wear. The _LIGHT_ is responsible for the brake fluid level and the P/S (brake assist) fluid level. Evidently yours is marginally low, so when you brake and the car nosedives, the float in the reservoir sinks, intermittantly closing the circuit. Check both fluids' level. If your dealer replaces the multi-$$$ Autocheck brain before checking the Pentosin level you might want to reevaluate his competence. ************************************************************ Igor Kessel '89 200TQ -- 18psi (TAP) '98 A4TQ -- nothing to declare Philadelphia, PA USA http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/8949/homepage.html ************************************************************
