Clutch Comment

The estimable Igor sayeth:

>I habitually double declutch at all times in any weather and
>although I would be first to admit that it is not always necessary,
>this habit of mine is probably the only reason why I have never had
>a single gearbox breakdown on any of my cars. Ever.

Ditto...ever since a trip thru the Bondurant school in 1983. Clutch
life on my cars is consistently excellent and I've not had tranny
problems either. I think this practice is at least
clutch-wear-neutral, or possibly even extends clutch life by matching
revs in the drivetrain and eliminating hi-stress clutch engagements.
