[Author Prev][Author Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Author Index][Thread Index] Engine hiccups after a/c service, 'adaptive engine management' and a/c fault codes
First of all, thanks to those who suggested WalMart as a source for inexpensive freon. The reason my compressor wasn't kicking in was that I only had .31 lbs. in there. After the mechanic spent about 10 min. looking for the HI connector, everything went smoothly and my car passed the vacuum test. Post service temp was 50 degrees. He felt it should be colder for the readings on the freon machine, so he unhooked the car battery for 10 sec. to "clear the settings" in the climate control. This didn't seem to help, but anything is better than the non-cooled air I had. Anyway, he said I might experience a "bit of a rough ride" for 15 mi. or so until the "adaptive engine management" re-learned my driving. Well, it's been 50 miles and my engine seems to have a slight hiccup every so often when cruising along on the highway (especially 40 - 60 mph). I'm not positive, but it seems to be more frequent when a/c is on. Also, I the air flow seems to be intermittent through the center dash vents when on AUTO/LO temp/HI fan. It'll blow wonderfully for a few miles, drop to the same as LO fan volume, then suddenly kick back in. 1. What is this "adaptive engine management" or was the guy blowing smoke? 2. Is there a solution shy of getting a tune-up? Bear in mind that I'm not mechanically inclined. 3. Though I've searched and (*think* I've) found some information on the a/c fault codes in the archives, it doesn't seem quite right. I also only have the (supposed) channel designations, but no indication of what the "normal" settings should read. Thank you in advance for your assistance. - Andrejs '88 5ksq
