Totally waterproofs connections. Multicolors allow coding of wires. Absorbs vibrations, prevents terminal screws from loosening. UV resistant. Can be applied to irregular shaped connections. Will not peel or unravel. Stays clean & neat. Flame retardant. Service range -30 F to +255 F. Super dielectric strength. So I would venture to guess if you are on the firewall or somewhere a little ways from the actual engine, you should be OK. >> Couple things here to consider. "+255 F" is a bit low for under hood applications but should be fine elsewhere as Todd said. The only real concern I would have is that soldered connections (the gist of the original post) are not really mechanically sound and the reason for heat shrink is to provide some strain relief beyond the now rigid soldered wahrs and into the less vulnerable stranded wahrs which are designed to be flexable (sorta for a while). Unless this stuff has really good adheasion one should be wary of that. That said, it is great stuff for some uses. Anytime you consider using RTV or silicon seal for an electical connection (BIG NO NO) this is the stuff to reach for! Thanks for the tip Todd! Mike Veglia 87 5kcstq
