86 4kcsq trunk lock

I just bought an 86 4kcsq and am having troubles getting the trunk upon. The
guy I bought it from said he had the trunk upon once but slamed it shut once
and couldn't get it open sense. The lock is in the unlock, (horizontil)
position and the buton pushes in, but the stuid trunk won't pop. Is there any
way to get in to it? I had a lock smith out and he didn't do jack. I can't get
to it from the back seats. what are my other options short of hammering in a
screw driver into the lock and prying it out? any help is appreciated.
