Hello List! In my search for a cheap book covering disassembling automatic transsmission on my 87 5KT I went to the local bookstore which carries foreign technical literature. I found a book there: "Rebuilding automatic transmissions: 80-84 import cars" from US publishing company Chilton. It covers VW/Audi 089 and 090 transmissions as well as many Japanese transmissions. I quickly browsed the VW/Audi chapter and it seems quite compentent, with many pictures, detailed procedures on how to replace individual components and a troubleshooting guide. It costs $45, so it's cheap compared to $200+ I would have to pay for mail-ordering the Bentley. The only problem is that my 5KT has 087 transmission. I know that it is quite similar to the 089, the question is, how similar? Will a book about 089 tranny be helpful or will it only confuse me? I'd appreciate any answers. BTW, I'm not going to rebuild the transmission yet, just replace the leaking seals.
