That's what I *love* US-spec cars for - 9mph rated bumpers :-) A friend of mine did once rear-end a Pontiac in his '83 Renault Fuego (European). The results were: Renault: broken bumper cover, broken grille, bent hood, broken radiator, had to be towed away Pontiac: broken tail light lens. Should I ever buy European-spec Audi, I seriously consider shipping a pair of bumpers from USA and retrofitting them.
